South Tyrol Reloaded

Last year's Christi-Himmelfahrt-weekend-trip to South Tyrol was so enjoyable that we decided to do the very same thing again. So we selected (almost) the same weekend, the same place, the same hotel, even the same room. So this trip felt a bit like coming home ;-)

Luckily, we learned from last year's catastrophic Brenner motorway traffic jams and set off pretty early (4:30 am). We reached our destination Scena (Schenna) already at 8 am without losing only one second in heavy traffic - so getting up early was totally worth the effort!

Wiesenweg in Scena (Day #1)

Due to getting up so early and to adapt to longer hikes, we decided to do nothing spectacular at day one. The Wiesenweg, which can be reached directly from our Hotel, was a pretty good start.

Unfortunately, it became quite clear that Christi Himmelfahrt is quite early this year… So it was much colder than in the year before and also the sun took way longer to “burn” through the clouds that were hanging between the mountains. Also the vegetation wasn't that developed as in the year before and there was way more snow on the mountains.

Did I mention the hotel has a pretty nice view down to the valley?

In case you are missing pictures of the [lake]{https://www.suedtirol-it.com/avelengo/lago-san-pancrazio.html} itself: we didn't reach the lake. Suddenly there was this massive snow field covering the path and the weather turned really bad, which made us reverse. After some time, a hailstorm started which wasn't that nice in about 2150m. Let's say: at least we tried
